The road to learning is always bumpy for deaf students. The difficulty in catching up in school does not only deprive them of joy of learning, but also affects their future development and employment. Despite all the challenges in tranditional inclusive education, this group of primary teachers chose to take the road less travelled by launching the “Sign Bilingualism & Co-enrolment in Deaf Education Programme” with limited resources. They are committed to breaking down the learning barriers faced by deaf students. A fair and inclusive learning environment comes naturally when deaf students and their hearing peers are encouraged to interact with and learn from each other. Ms Chan and Ms Choi literally started the programme from scratch. From knowing nothing about sign language twelve years ago to becoming the budding specialists today, it is the strong passion for what they do that keeps them going.
